FAQ:
Why do wrinkles happen?
Our facial muscles contract to create facial expressions, like smiling, frowning, and furrowing our eyebrows. Over time, repeated facial expressions cause the skin overlying our facial muscles to form creases and wrinkles. Wrinkles can be static (present all the time) or dynamic (present only with facial movement).
What are neuromodulators?
Neuromodulators (i.e. Xeomin, Botox, Dysport, Nuceiva) are made of a protein that temporarily blocks the junction between nerves and their target muscles. This allows the muscle and overlying skin to relax, which creates a smoother, rejuvenated appearance.
How soon will neuromodulators start working?
You may notice the effects of neuromodulators within a day or two after treatment, but it will take two weeks to see the full effect.
How long do neuromodulators last? Are they permanent?
The effects of neuromodulators are not permanent - Neuromodulators last 3-4 months on average, though everyone is different. Repeating treatments every 3-4 months helps prevent the formation of new fine lines, and provides the best sustained aesthetic results. After three regularly scheduled treatments, you may notice an increase in how long the effects last between treatments (ie. 4-6 months).
What neuromodulator does Dr. Nora work with?
Dr. Nora works with Xeomin, a neuromodulator that has been designed for shelf stability and portability, making it ideal for treatment in your own home.
How long does neuromodulator treatment take?
After the consultation, treatment takes about 15 minutes.
How much neuromodulator treatment cost?
The cost is calculated by the number of units of neuromodulator required to treat an area of concern. The number of units required can vary by area and by patient. For example, treating the glabella (ie. the '11' lines or frown lines) usually requires 20-30 units.
What can I expect during a consultation?
1. Set Your Goals:
You will share your goals with Dr. Nora and she will answer any questions you may have about neuromodulator treatment.

2. Discuss Your Health History and Treatment Plan:
Dr. Nora will review your health history, discuss the treatment plan, take pre-treatment photos, and go over consent forms.

3. Choose Your Care Schedule:
You can choose to have your treatment during the consultation or at a later date.
4. Post-Care:
After the treatment, Dr. Nora will book you for a 2-week follow-up appointment to review your experience and take post-treatment photos for your records.
Pre-Treatment Instructions
1 Week Before:
Avoid alcohol, Aspirin, NSAIDS (i.e. Advil, Motrin, Aleve), and supplements (i.e. omega 3, vitamin E, gingko biloba, St. John's wort, green tea)

2 Days Before:
Avoid shaving, waxing, plucking or using depilatory cream in the area to be treated. Consider using Arnica or eating fresh pineapple, as these contain bromelain which can reduce bruising.

Day of Treatment:
Come to your appointment with a freshly washed face, free of makeup. But if you forget, don't worry, we will provide you with a makeup removal towelette. Try to eat and drink prior to your appointment, as some people can feel lightheaded if they have treatment on an empty stomach.
Post-Treatment Instructions
-
Do not touch or massage the treated area for six hours after injection.
-
Do contract the injected muscles every 10 minutes for 1 hour after treatment to ensure that the neuromodulator is absorbed into the muscle that was injected.
-
Stay upright for 3 hours after treatment to prevent migration of the neuromodulator to another muscle.
-
Avoid physical exercise, hot tubs, saunas, and facials for 24 hours after treatment.
-
Avoid alcohol, Aspirin, and NSAIDS (ie. Advil, Motrin, Aleve) for 24 hours after treatment.
